HURON TOWSHIP is a full service governmental body supplying a number of services to its citizens. The Township is governed by three elected Trustees and an elected Fiscal Officer who oversees the Township’s finances. According to the latest census, there are 2,572 people in the unincorporated part of the Township.
Huron Township Departments include:
- The Huron Township Road Department .which has the responsibility of maintaining
and keeping clear over 23 miles of roads. In addition, the Road Department is
responsible for grounds maintenance of all Township properties including three
cemeteries and oversees all funeral services at the cemeteries.
- The Huron Township Building Department handles all of the zoning and building
issues in the Township, including within the City of Huron. The Building
Department is a State of Ohio certified department for both residential and
commercial/industrial projects and contracts with seven other political subdivisions
within Erie County for building department services.

Law Enforcement: Huron Township has 24 hour coverage supplied by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department (ECSD) and, in cooperation with BGSU-Firelands Campus, contracts for additional coverage during peak activity periods.

Fire and EMS: Huron Township contracts with the City of Huron for both fire and EMS coverage and has done so since 1969.
