HURON TOWNSHIP BUILDING DEPARTMENT

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Huron Township Building Department is certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards to enforce the Ohio Building Code and the Ohio Residential Code within our jurisdictional boundaries and within our contracted jurisdictions.  The Ohio Building Code (OBC) and the National Electrical Code (NEC-2008 Edition) are used for all commercial/industrial projects.  Permits are required for all work as required under Sections 105 and 106 of the OBC.  The Ohio Residential Code (ORC), the National Electric Code (NEC-2008 Edition) are used for all residential projects.  Permits are required for all work in excess of $50.00 and for all work involving structural renovations.  All personnel employed by the Building Department are certified in their field by the State of Ohio and other national code organizations.  Erie County Health District regulates all plumbing permits, at the bottom of this page you will find a link to their site.

 

CONTRACTED JURISDICTIONS

The following jurisdictions are under contract with Huron Township for building department services:

            City of Huron (residential, and commercial)

 

            Margaretta Township (residential and commercial)

 

            Milan Village (residential and commercial)

 

            Oxford Township (residential and commercial)

 

            Berlin Heights Village (residential and commercial)

 

            Castalia Village (residential and commercial)

 

            Groton Township (commercial only)

        

            Berlin Township (commercial only)

 

Before submitting building applications to Huron Township, zoning certificates are required

from each jurisdiction.

 

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS

The Huron Township Board of Zoning Appeals meets the second (2nd) Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM., at the Township office (1820 Bogart Road, Huron, Ohio).  All required information must be submitted to the Building Department no later than twenty (20) days before the meeting date.  The Appeals Board is composed of five (5) members of the community.  Variances, conditional uses, and special exceptions are decided by this Board.  The members of the Board are:

ZONING COMMISSION

The Zoning Commission meets the first (1st) Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM., inn then township office (1820 Bogart Road, Huron, Ohio).  All required information must be submitted to the Building Department no later than thirty (30) days prior to the date of the next regularly scheduled meeting.  The Commission reviews all site plans for commercial/industrial projects, all re-zoning requests, and any map amendments.  The members of the Zoning Commission are:
